Change the script on victim blaming.

If someone you care about was a victim of crime,
what would you say to them? Many victims are blamed for what happened to them - often by people they know.

What we say when someone opens up
can make a real difference.

I stand with you

To every victim reading this: what happened to you was not your fault. You deserved safety, respect, kindness, and to be heard. Speaking up takes courage, and even surviving in silence takes strength most people will never fully understand.Victim blaming has no place in Aotearoa. Healing is hard enough without people questioning, minimising, or judging the pain someone has lived through.Your voice matters. Your story matters. And you are worthy of support, compassion, and justice.

These offences against people need to be stopped, the courts need to recognise that this type of behaviour causes death and permanent injury to people every year - we have the highest level of this criminal activity in the OECD nothing to be proud of!

I have personally travelled the brutal journey of partner abuse - my thoughts and prayers are with anyone who is being subjected to that level of violence whether physical or emotional

I'm so sorry that happened to you/ that was your experience (with police and family court, Oranga tamariki), you didnt deserve that. How can I best support you? (As a survivor myself there is a huge amount of stigma around Family Violence but speaking about it stops the shame taking over and advocating for women and children in a very broken system in a country with horrific DV and child mental health stats we need to be doing more the prevention space
