“You’re the scaffolding that’s helped the family get back together.”
Suicide
(Service Co-ordinator)
“A while after his son killed himself the father went to his GP for his unbearable grief. We were working with the family and felt that the father needed more support than that. He was drinking heavily and talking about suicide himself, he wasn’t eating or taking care of himself physically.
We got health services involved. We have a relationship with them and they do take our concerns seriously. They did an assessment that they invited us to as well. The dad acknowledged he did need more support and they organised a district nurse.
It took time but gradually he became more positive and focussed on the future. He said to me “you’re the scaffolding that’s helped the family get back together.”
