Support for Tsunami Victims and Flood Victims

20 January 2005

Victim Support Kapiti has been busy providing a Crisis Support Service to returning survivors of the tsunami and their families. Many survivors are finding it emotionally difficult when arriving in New Zealand and are being given access to professional counselling and information on disease awareness. The support will be ongoing for some time as the families and victims learn to live with the trauma they have experienced.

Victim Support was also on hand to help the families affected by the recent flooding. 25 families in the Otaihanga township and approximately 50 families in the Reikorangi Valley area have been affected. For some it is the second or third time in less than five years and for some it is as recent as February 2004.
