Michael Dowling

"I have been a Crisis worker with the Porirua Victim Support group from August 1998 to November 2010 and on the Kapiti Mana LGC from November 1998. My Crisis work has involved many callouts, many victims and many training sessions. I have worked with a number of Victims impacted by Suicide and Homicide Trauma.

I was part of the working group that developed the 2000 National Strategic plan for the New Zealand Council of Victim Support Groups.  I have attended several Victim Support Annual Conferences.

Outside of Victim Support, I have had 7 years experience on the Executive of a National Association negotiating on behalf of 80 businesses. On this executive I have been the Chair of a Technology consultancy group, advocating for 5 years until there was a successful system change. Chairing an Ethics Committee and Contracts Committee, President of the National Association for 2 terms and NZ delegate on an Australian board for 2 terms.  I also chair a National Council.

I have been a Director of a privately held Company for the last 11 years.  I have completed initial and refresher Director Training through the NZ Institute of Management.  I am an Authorised Financial Adviser, qualified in conducting Personal Financial Planning and Risk Management processes to assist my clients in achieving their goals and objectives over time.

These roles have taken me into contact with various Government agencies and members of Parliament. I am passionate about protecting Victims and their rights and advocating the role of Victim Support's ability to reduce Victim suffering.  I look forward to the opportunity of continuing my work of advocating for victims at the national level, using my experience and training. "
